Why Volunteer with Ubumi?
As a small grassroots organization, Ubumi provides volunteers with a unique opportunity for those who would like to make a real difference in the lives of children suffering as a result of HIV and AIDS by working side-by-side with those at the forefront of the response. After ten years of working with volunteers from around the globe, Ubumi can provide assistance with issues of immigration, accommodation and travel, and still be flexible in regards to area of interest, time frame, and budget. Though Ubumi does not provide any stipend they are able to assist in finding low-cost lodging. They also can help in planning site-seeing excursions or travel to other countries.

Supervision Support- The Transit Home is currently staffed by three full-time workers, but can always use volunteers who are able to provide supplementary care for the children. Such volunteers are asked to assist within the household by providing supplementary supervision for the children, reading stories, helping with homework, and playing games, as well as helping during special events, parties, or in case of emergencies.

Guest Teacher- Ubumi Community School employs four full-time trained teachers, but always look forward to receiving visitors. Guest teachers can choose as they feel comfortable to simply observe, to assist in the classroom or with tutoring, or to teach lessons accompanied by a translator.

Development Intern- Persons in this position work with Ubumi management in the daily management and implementation of programs, including counselling, home visits, with a special emphasis in documentation for the website and donors. This is an ideal position for someone with strong writing skills and a special interest in international development.

Medical Volunteer- While there are numerous medical facilities in Kitwe, many of the most desperate are unable to access basic care for themselves and their children. At Ubumi, we are eternally grateful to trained medical staff willing to lend their services to our Transit Home and Community Support Project. Volunteers n this position are asked to provide general medical exams for orphans and undernourished children, as well as give seminars to impoverished single women and widows.
