The Evans Family

Gerald Anthony Evans 7th April 1952 – 22nd February 2003

Gerald was born in Birmingham, England, in 1952. He was the middle brother of three, and from the age of nine years old attended Seabright School in Kidderminster where he was a boarder. On completion of his secondary education he embarked on an engineering apprenticeship, and from there he attended Aston University where he graduated in Business Studies in 1973.

Gerald was an accountant by profession, but he was also very involved in his local church (which he had attended since the age of five.) He served as a deacon for a period and in later years enjoyed the support and fellowship of the men’s Instep group. His hobbies included rugby football, hill walking and squash.

Gerald was a devoted and caring husband and father.

Gerald married Stephanie in 1977 and were able to enjoy their silver wedding anniversary together celebrating twenty five years of marriage.

Gerald and Stephanie have two children; Jenny who is 26 years old and is a teacher, with boy friend Paul, who lives in Oxford. Tom is 23 years of age and is in his second year of study at Oxford University, where his is reading law. Tom has many hobbies including rowing. Tom’s team won the Oxford and Cambridge boat race, on the River Thames, this year 2006.

Stephanie works as a Community Nurse at a local Health Centre. Since her early teenage Stephanie has been actively involved in her church, Sutton Coldfield Baptist. Amongst her interests Stephanie enjoys swimming, gardening and reading.

Sutton Coldfield Baptist Church

Our church is in a town of approximately 100.000 and we have a membership of 500 people and a large number of children. We meet in an old school building on a hill in the centre of town. We have missionaries who work in lots of different countries around the world, including Africa. The church is committed to making the love Jesus known both near and far.

Instep Walking Group

Over recent years our small walking group have undertaken money-raising challenges and have supported work in England and abroad. For the last three years we have sent £6.500 to the Musonda Village School Project enabling a new building to be constructed. The school has been named, 'The Gerald Evans Memorial School.’

The walking group has members from different churches and also friends who enjoy walking in our beautiful English countryside.

Our money raising challenge for 2006 is at Carsington Water, a large reservoir in Derbyshire. The money we raise will go towards a Hammer Mill for the Musonda Village in Zambia.
