Eddy's Visit to the USA:

The Director of Ubumi Project - Africa, Mr. Eddy Mulangala went for a one month visit to the United States of America (USA) for a youth summit at the United Nations. Eddy left on 22nd August 2007 and went to market Ubumi work in the USA.
The following is an account of his trip:

THE YOUTH SUMMIT
The primary purpose of Eddy’s visit in the States was a Youth Summit organized by Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) in New York City. Mr. Mulangala said the summit that attracted participants from about 35 countries was a pool of information vital for social development projects. It was during this summit that Eddy had a chance to meet Mary Shuttleworth, founder and President of YHRI.  This was also an opportunity to meet with YHRI - Canada which paved the way to discussions on the formation of the Zambian Chapter of YHRI. Eddy has set the groundwork for the formation of the Zambia Chapter.

VISIT TO OHIO
Mr. Mulangala was, after the summit, hosted in Ohio by founder of Children of Ubumi, Mrs. Penny Frese. While there, he had an opportunity to meet the Ohio community and spoke at a dinner presentation on Ubumi and Zambia. He discussed the orphan situation in Zambia and the toll of HIV/AIDS on the economy. He also had an opportunity to visit some individual households that had taken keen interest in the work of Ubumi.

EDDY IN HUDSON
In Hudson, eddy visited the Seton catholic school where he made a similar presentation. The purpose was to raise awareness about Ubumi to the students and market opportunities for support at Ubumi. The Hudson community later expressed interest in adopting the Ubumi transit home to contribute to its daily operations through the Children of Ubumi.

BOSTON
Peter and Kit, past Ubumi volunteers were also delighted to see Eddy and took the opportunity of showing him some places that included the Harvard University, the Museum of fine Art and the Massachusettes Institute of technology. Eddy also had an opportunity to visit Berea children’s home in Ohio for children in difficult circumstances.

Eddy Also:
-Had a telephone conversation with the fouunder of Catherine Inspiration for Children (CIFKID), Margot Hyland. She plans to produce a documentary on child rape in countries including Zambia. Ubumi project had been selected as the link organisation for Zambia. The documentary is expected to be produced in 2007.
-Visited the University of Maine in the sttate of Maine.
-Established a prayer programme between inndividual children at Ubumi and well-wishers in the States. This programme allows both parties to pray for the wellbeing of the other.

NOTE OF THANKS
Eddy would like to sincerely thank Mr. Terry Mukuka for initialising his visit and especially thank YHRI for opening a window of hope for Ubumi through the youth summit that culminated into many other hopeful perspectives for the organisation.
Special thanks go to Mary, Penny, Peter and Kit who made the Visit most enjoyable!
